The Narrative Battlefield: Antisemitism, Information Warfare, And The Global Struggle For Public Opinion, From Gaza To Iran

In the modern world, wars are fought on more than battlefields.

They are fought through headlines, images, algorithms, emotional framing, and the struggle to shape public perception. Increasingly, the battle over meaning has become just as consequential as the battle on the ground.

Today, we are pleased to share a new long-form report published by HR Canada Charitable Organization:

The Narrative Battlefield: Antisemitism, Information Warfare, and the Global Struggle for Public Opinion, From Gaza to Iran

Designed as an in-depth look at the topic, this publication examines how narrative framing, media ecosystems, and digital information environments shape public understanding of conflict, antisemitism, morality, and truth in democratic societies.

Drawing on media theory, framing analysis, information warfare research, and original empirical analysis of CBC coverage, the report explores:

  • how modern conflicts are increasingly fought through narrative (how the story told shapes the reality on the ground)
  • how moral complexity is flattened into simplified binaries
  • how emotionally resonant framing shapes public opinion
  • the role of headlines, sourcing, and language in constructing meaning
  • the rise of decentralized information warfare in the digital age
  • the relationship between narrative environments and the resurgence of antisemitism
  • how sustained narrative framing influences social cohesion, institutional trust, and democratic stability

The report also includes a detailed case study, drawing on our report which analyzed 2,789 CBC News articles published between October 7, 2023 and June 7, 2025, examining patterns of sympathetic framing, headline construction, and narrative asymmetry in coverage of the Israel-Hamas war.

At its core, this paper argues that contemporary conflicts cannot be understood solely through military or geopolitical analysis. They must also be understood through the narratives that shape how societies interpret reality itself.

We hope this report contributes to a deeper and more rigorous conversation about media, public discourse, democratic responsibility, and the growing role of narrative warfare in shaping our world.
